nine favorite things

Nine Favorite Things. Hey everyone! How are you all? Wow, it’s mid-November already, and Thanksgiving is only a week away! This means it is cookbook launch week! After nearly three years of creating this cookbook, I canโ€™t believe this week is here! I am off to New York today to kick off the book tour and start the first week of press. We have some exciting opportunities happening this week. I am so excited!

I start this week bright and early in New York, then head to DC. From DC, itโ€™s on to Atlanta, then home for Thanksgiving!!

I truly couldnโ€™t be more excited about it all, but Iโ€™m nervous, too. Putting out another cookbook is nerve-racking. Youโ€™d think by the 4th book, Iโ€™d have this all down. But I feel more nervous this time around than any other! Itโ€™s wacky, but I’m sure everything will be amazing. Iโ€™m a lucky girl to get to travel to meet many of you!

This past week was busy, too! I headed to Napa for a special photoshoot and had a quick two-night stay at the lovely Stanly Ranch. If you ever get to Napa, I would highly recommend the resort. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating, and the grounds are simply stunning!

Our photoshoot went so well, and Iโ€™m excited to share what weโ€™re working on soon! I think it will be something you’ll all enjoy! Keep your eyes peeled for clues!

From Napa, I flew into New York late on Wednesday and had some drama with my baggage. Always so much fun, right!? This was a very last-minute trip into the city. I attended the Amazon Holiday Soirรฉe with our Amazon family. It really got me into the holiday spirit!! They had the cutest station set up for me, along with the new cookbooks. I felt very well-loved. It was a great event! Amazon really is making holiday shopping easier than ever! Make sure you check out all my Amazon gift guides!

I flew home on Friday for a quick two nights because I just really needed to be home, even if quickly, ahead of this week. As much as I love all of this travel, I’m still a homebody at heart!

This is such a special time. I feel really lucky to have these opportunities!

Thatโ€™s all for this week โ€“ lots of holiday excitement in the air mixed with so much cookbook excitement. It’s a BIG week!

  1. Please HBH team can you make commenters register in order to leave a comment on the blog? I visit many different food and lifestyle blogs, many of which require this and none of them have such a mess of a comment section like this one. If it’s not the people leaving rude unnecessary comments directed at Tieghan, then it is fans defending her with equally rude comments. It’s hard to believe grown adults feel the need to argue in a food blog’s comment section, but I guess that is the reality of the internet these days. Having people register in order to comment would most likely eliminate 99% of this since I am guessing most of these comments come from fake emails.

    1. I agree with this. I’m tired of reading all the bickering, and most of it is pointless and totally off topic, and SO irrelevant for a food blog. While I understand and even agree with those defending T. (it’s not rude to call out abusive behavior – it’s 100% justified) if pre-approved and registered emails were required, as well as the blog admins pre-approving the comments, then none of the abusive posters would have an opportunity to do what they do. This would eliminate the need for anyone which a conscience who can’t stand seeing someone get bullied, to respond.

      1. I replied that this is the strangest microcosm, and that got deleted for some reason. I didnโ€™t think it was an offensive statement, but maybe my perception is off.

    2. I would guess most comments come from people who try her recipes and find that they don’t work. … but I could be wrong.

      1. Some are on recipes but seems more so on the weekly NFT posts. Scroll thru the comments on this NFT post, itโ€™s a cess pool. People fighting back and forth, name calling, rude comments and questions to Tieghan, but also people come to her defense making equally rude comments. It is ridiculous adults act like this.

        1. She’s deleting all the comments from her genuine supporters, and leaving up the ones attacking her. It’s weird.

    3. Hey Kaitlyn, I totally hear you and agree, but at the same time a system like that will limit our lovely readers from commenting and make it tricker. We donโ€™t want anyone to feel like they need to sign in to comment. Does that make sense?

Regardless, Iโ€™m sorry you have some troubles with the comments! But I appreciate all of your kindness! Happy holidays!

  2. Hi Tieghan, I just wanted to say that I always look forward to reading Nine Favorite Things on Sunday morning with my coffee. I enjoy the column overall but have appreciated the Favorite links Iโ€™m loving because it has given me ideas for so many different aspects of life. Keep up the good work! Love all of your recipes too, my daughter and I make a recipe or two of yours every week.

    1. Hi Jacqueline,
Thanks so much for reading today and each week! I appreciate you being here and love that you have been enjoying the links:) Have the best week! XxT

  3. The site crashed and reloaded three times while I was trying to comment. Surprised the Amazon event was a last minute trip. They could have better prepared you because surely they have all that planned out months in advance? Sorry about your luggage drama! Thatโ€™s the worst. Do you usually check a bag for trips that are only a couple of nights?

    1. The amount of flying back and forth or a night or two is insane. It seems things could be better planned all around honestly.

  4. I just typed up an entire comment, but as usual, your site crashed before I could post. I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to come to this website and never have it work for long enough to read the content or participate in the feedback section.

The original question I had wasโ€” why are these weekly posts called โ€œnine favorite thingsโ€? Every week there are hundreds of new links posted, most of which are not things youโ€™ve purchased or tested. Which of these hundreds of links are the nine youโ€™re saying are your favorite? In some cases youโ€™re not even referring to yourself when pointing out these items, youโ€™re saying itโ€™s a hotel your parents like or cousin Abby went to. As a reader (or someone who attempts to read before the site crashes daily), Iโ€™d prefer a much tighter list of actual recommendations instead of just seeing the entirety of the internet copy and pasted in front of me.

    1. Why are you here reading it then? Doesnโ€™t sound like you enjoy it and could probably find a different blog to enjoy. The internets a massive place and no one is forcing you to be here

      1. Honestly, donโ€™t know anymore, and I agree. I figured eventually itโ€™d get better. If anyone has any recos for other recipe sites, would love to hear!

    2. Hey Alison, Iโ€™m so sorry you are having trouble with the ads. We are talking to our ad team and will adjust!

As for the nine favorites things, originally this post was much smaller and just 9 favorites. Today, it has grown into so much more and I love sharing even more favorites! I love the original name, so Iโ€™m sticking with it! It was just an evolution over time!

Does that make sense? Happy holidays!! xx

    1. Thank you so much, Becky!! Unfortunately, I will not be in California this time around, but I am hoping to add more dates after the New Year! Have a nice week:) xT

  5. Stunning red dress! Any tips on finding cardigans or jackets that donโ€™t ruin the look of a party dress? I prefer to keep my arms covered but usually hate the way jackets look over evening and cocktail looks. Would love to know where you find the most of your covered up options. Thanks!

      1. It might be helpful honestly since so many of your podcast and TV appearances are very awkward to watch. You might actually enjoy them more if you were better at public speaking, or conversation in general.

        1. Tieghan, you said you were going to remove rude comments, so why on earth do you leave stuff like this up, while deleting comments from your actual supporters?

          1. I saw that with my own eyes just now. This is the second time you have had to ask her this question. She is actually doing that. WTF?

  6. Hi T! Loved you on the DITL podcast! But would love to know more about where you heard that squats were bad for you? They are a staple in most lower body workouts! The red dress looks amazing on you, but would probably look even better with some additional lower body strength ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. Hi Dina,

Youโ€™re right, squats are a staple and most lower body workouts and so good to do. You should have stopped there. Whatโ€™s wrong here is commenting on another womanโ€™s body and telling T the dress would have looked better if sheโ€™d been doing squats. Women need to support women when it comes to body comments- thereโ€™s already so much negativity out there and discussions on what the perfect body looks like. Is this a comment youโ€™d say to a friend? I hope not and definitely not something you say to someone close to you, why say it to a stranger?

  7. Hi Tieghan! I love reading your emails and looking at all of your beautiful (cute ;)) photos! Thank you for taking us on all of your adventures. I love how humble and grateful you are for the beautiful life God has blessed you to live. Thank you for sharing it with all of us! Thank you for blessing the world with your culinary talent. I preordered your new cookbook and am so excited to get it. I have made so many of your recipes and every single one is such a big hit with my family and guests!! Hope to meet you someday!! Blessings!

    1. Hi Carly,
Happy Sunday and thanks for reading today! I appreciate your kind and thoughtful message:) I am so glad you enjoy all of the content I have been sharing. I hope you absolutely love the new cookbook! Have a wonderful week! XxT

  8. I purchased tickets for Short Hills but when I checked the ticket it said Northvale. Is it not in the short Hills mall again?

    1. Hi Monica,
Thanks so much for your question today. I’m so sorry, but I will not be in Short Hills. We did do a book tour there almost 2 1/2 years ago. This year it is at Books and Greetings which is in Northvale, NJ. You should be able to see this once you click the link for the ticket. Please let me know if I can help in any other way! xT

      1. On the upper portion of this email your book tour shows Short Hills. It is printed in black and white. Big mistake!? The purchaser is owed a refund and an apology.

      2. Tieghan. Aren’t you the one who puts NFT together? You’re not sure where Monica saw Short Hills? It’s in this NFT in section 4, in big bold letters where it says Tour Dates. As Linda said, refunds and apologies are owed. As many have said, hire a proofreader.

      3. Youโ€™ve edited your comment but originally it said โ€œIโ€™m not sure where you saw Short Hills but we have never had a stop here.โ€ Then you deleted all the comments calling you out and then you STILL did not offer to refund her for her ticket ever though you were wrong.

      4. Thank you for the response. I had already purchased the tickets before I noticed that the ticket says “Northvale” but on the website it says “Short Hills” which are two different parts of Jersey. It might be an old graphic posting the book tour locations.

  9. Hi ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿฝ love your cookbooks they are so beautiful! Feast for the eyes.
Are you ever coming to the Toronto area?

    1. Thank you so much, Bernadette! I wish I could make stops everywhere, unfortunately, Toronto is not on the list right now. So sorry! Have a nice Sunday! xT

      1. Came home after a very busy day to find your cookbook arrived a day early!!!. Thanks for sharing these recipes with us.
        Happy Thanksgiving!

  10. Hi Tieghan! I always love to read these posts! An Atlanta girl here who is so SAD I will miss your visit but I just got notice from Amazon that my preordered cookbook is shipping and will be here Tuesday. We are taking the kids to NYC for a quick trip before Thanksgiving and I hate the timing doesnโ€™t work for me to see you in NYC either! We did score a reservation at The Polo Bar which seems to be one of your faves. Safe travels on your tour!!

    1. Hi Kelly,
Thanks so much for reading today:) Thank you for ordering the cookbook, I hope you love it just as much as I do! Ahhh sorry to have missed you in both locations, but I hope you have the best time with your family in NYC. It’s the best time of year to go! Have a nice week! XxT

  11. Can you recommend a skillet/pot that can go on the stove top, is wide and deep, then can go in the oven and has two handles rather than one long handle?? It might be called a braising pot? Some of your recipes call for stove top then oven. I have a cast-iron one but itโ€™s a bit small and has a longer handle. I feel like Iโ€™ve seen the kind with 2 handles but am unsure how to internet search!

    1. Hey Clare,
Totally! I love all Staub products, they last forever and are so versatile. So you could go with a dutch oven or a braiser from there, both are amazing pieces. Also, their skillet is my go to for just about everything! Here is the link:
      https://amzn.to/3NlJ3ON
I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any other questions! Happy Sunday! xT

  12. Happy Sunday, Tieghan, Gerard fam, and HBH team! What an exciting time for you! I cannot wait for my copy of your cookbook to finally get here. Iโ€™m excited to curl up with the cookbook and a mug of hot tea, just reading it from start to finish and getting excited over all the recipes Iโ€™m going to try! Thank you for sharing all the beautiful pictures from your travels. Also, thanks for the link to the J. Crew flannel pajama bottoms, of which I treated myself to two pairs! Have a wonderful, fun week ahead. I appreciate you and all your hard work!

    1. Hey Jen,
Happy Sunday and thanks for reading as always:) I hope you just love the new cookbook and I appreciate you ordering it. You can never go wrong with the J. Crew pj pants!! Have the best week! XxT
